While I had researched and written a bit about Dave Wottle for BGSUsports.com, and knew some of the story behind his gold medal win in the 1972 Olympics, I had never thought about the video until it was posted yesterday at AZZ.com. Some of the fun is taken out of it by knowing the result, but it doesn’t make it any less exhilarating.

It’s reminiscent of a couple of the Triple Crown horse races this year, although seeing how far back Wottle is heading into the last 100 meters or so makes that finishing kick even more remarkable, if not a bit ridiculous.
