Welcome to AyZiggyZoomBLOG, a collaborative effort of a few fellow Falcons to share more indepth thoughts and news and views of the day around Bowling Green. As a bit of an interactive go-between for Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba.com and BGSUsports.com, AZZBlog will get viewpoints on current and historical events surrounding BGSU and open them for discussion, hopefully in a deeper format than a message board can bring.

In addition, we hope to have some fun with the BG community in general with some side features of the blog:

  • AyZiggyZoomBABES - Spotlighting the fairer-feathered members of the Falcon flock, we look to feature a “Bird of the Month” each month.
  • AyZiggyZoomBEERS - Will post “open calls” for Falcons looking to meet up for drinks. Whether it’s a watch party for a big road game or just looking for an evening to toss back some cold ones and chat BG athletics. Until I can think up a clever title for other events, this can also be a catch-all for any kind of event to bring Falcon fans together.
  • AyZiggyZoomBARS - The other half of the AyZiggyZoomBEERS equation, we’re looking to build a list of out of town bars where Falcons gather on a regular basis. Does your alumni chapter have a set night out each month? Or just a regular bar for watch parties? Let us know! Feel free to suggest a bar in your area to create a “Falcons Nest” in your hometown!

Comments are always open, and suggestions for BABES, BEERS and BARS or how to improve the site can be addressed to blog@bgsusports.com. Guest posts are always welcome too at the same address.

ROLL ALONG FELLOW FALCONS!

Imagine waking up every morning knowing that in the day ahead at work you will find very challenging problems to solve and tough decisions to make. Problems of security, equality, finance and decisions like who gets what, and when they get it and why would be encountered every day. What I just described is a hard job that requires a great deal of responsibility accountability. These are some of the responsibilities a president has. Being a president is not an easy job. As such it should be compensated fairly. Free housing, sustenance, and utilities would no doubt be in the compensation package a president is offered. A president’s salary would have to be in the six figure range, probably below half a million dollars a year. A president has a wealth of experience they bring with them to their post so a salary of this type compensates them fairly. What I just described for you is the compensation package that Dr. Cartwright receives from Bowling Green State University on an annual basis. Compared to the rest of the state schools in Ohio, it’s a fair number. What the papers haven’t told you is that Dr. Cartwright is making just a bit less, around $25,000 less actually, than the President of the United States makes. That’s right the leader of the free world only makes 25 thousand more dollars than the president of the university. President Obama is Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces that execute our wars and defend our nation from our foreign and domestic threats. President Obama has control over our nuclear arsenal which is capable of decimating the Earth several times over. President Obama submits our nation’s budget every year and signs it into law once Congress passes it. This year, President Obama signed into law a budget for fiscal year 2010 of over 1.1 trillion dollars. He is the face and voice of the nation. President Obama has a staff that numbers in the millions. President Obama is easily the most powerful man on the globe and he is compensated fairly for it. As President, he makes around $400,000 a year and has a few expense accounts for entertaining foreign dignitaries and heads of state, for travelling, and for his White House office staff. Dr. Cartwright is president of Bowling Green State University. She isn’t in charge of nuclear weapons, a military, and certainly doesn’t have a big impact on the foreign policy of the United States of America. She comparatively isn’t in charge of a vast bureaucracy that employs millions of people. She doesn’t make decisions that can easily affect every man, woman, and child on the globe. At BGSU’s main campus she has almost 3,000 faculty and staff members and direct responsibility for about 23,000 students. That’s about 26,000 bodies total, not even 3% of a million. She handles a budget in the millions, but it’s not even close to a billion. President Obama again handles a budget of over $1.1 trillion, that’s 1,000 billions. Think about that responsibility for a second. President Obama has people’s lives in his hands. Dr. Cartwright has multiple academic and sports programs in hers. President Obama said he was aiming to cut programs that don’t help the U.S. or her citizens. President Cartwright wants to cut a hockey program that has reflected greatly on not only the university, but the community. The University Hockey program that won a National Title in 1984 and a ice rink that has churned out world champions and NHL players that bring our community recognition. Don’t you think she could afford to make a little less than $375,000 before she decides to cut a hockey program that has done all of those things? I leave you to decide.
